Acting on positive interest shown in a 1988 meeting, community leaders began the process of forming a historical organization; in 1989, it was incorporated as the Sunnyslope Historical Society. In 1999, A & C Properties donated the People’s Drug Store building and a 1940s house. The Melluzzo Family donated the current museum property and the buildings were moved to their present site. Volunteers renovated the drug store building as a museum which opened to the public in 2003.
